She received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1998. She then performed a one-year fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania, performing research in the field of noninvasive imaging of hypoxia. She went on to complete a residency in radiology, becoming board certified in 2003. After her residency, Dr. Ziemer spent one year as a postdoctoral fellow in oncology at the University of Pennsylvania.
