After graduating from Auburn University with a BS in Animal and Dairy Science and her DVM degree, she continued her pursuit of a career in wildlife conservation medicine with a rotating medicine and surgery internship at the Animal Medical Center in New York City. She followed this with a residency in clinical zoo and wildlife medicine and surgery at the Wildlife Conservation Society, with focused training in diagnostic imaging at AMC. Marie then worked in private practice and wildlife consulting, and served at the Birmingham Zoo as the Director of Veterinary Services and Curator of Ectotherms until 2008, when she went into academia. Marie has a passion for teaching, and has developed and taught curriculums in zoo, wildlife and exotic species medicine and surgery for over 16 years. She served as Assistant Professor at the College of Veterinary Medicine and as the veterinarian for the Southeastern Raptor Center. She also worked with the Environmental Institute at Auburn University, and Alabama DCNR\/FWS with a project to repatriate Eastern Indigo snakes to the southeastern United States. Marie serves as the veterinary advisor for the species survival plan (SSP) for Chinese Alligators. She serves as Associate Professor for St. George\u2019s University\u2019s School of Veterinary Medicine for 9 years, and continues to serve as a visiting professor and conservation wildlife and disease researcher for SGU SVM, and as a Senior Research Fellow and the WINDREF Institute. Marie has a strong desire to mentor others, to learn something new each day and inspire a passion for the natural world through conservation medicine, research and education. She also serves as the AVMA veterinary program advisor for Wild Sun wildlife rescue in Costa Rica. She joined the AIS team in 2015 and loves working with RDVMs for patient care. Although AIS is her primary career, Marie also continues to serve in private practice for domestic and zoo\/exotic species, clinical student mentorship, serves as a lecturer for conferences, and still enjoys working with her zoo colleagues as a relief veterinarian.
