    A) Peripheral lymphocytosis, suspect leukemia, etc., submit:
    1.0 mL EDTA whole blood or bone marrow in lavender top tube
    (EDTA) tube and CBC results that are no older than 48 hours.
    -OR-
    B) Multicentric lymphoma, lymphoma/ suspect neoplastic cells
    in lymph node(s) or organ(s) submit: lymph node or other
    tissue/organ aspirate in non-additive red or white top tube.

    -OR-
    C) Pleural effusion and ascites, submit:
    0.5 mL of cavity fluid in a lavender top tube (EDTA) and 0.5
    mL in a red top tube (with a few drops of patient serum
    added for protein samples less than 4 mg/dL as evaluated on
    a refractometer.)
    If only able to submit one effusion sample, submission of
    lavender top tube (EDTA) is preferred.

    Important:
    Due to a supply chain issue, the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory at Michigan State University cannot measure the parathyroid hormone-related protein (PTHrP) portion of the Malignancy Panel (iCa, PTH, PTHrP). PTHrP testing is unavailable while MSU works to validate a new assay. Samples will be submitted to MSU for PTH/ionized Calcium. Until further notice, for future requests, please order S16595 (US) or CS16595 (Canada).

    Ionized Calcium (iCa), Parathyroid Hormone (PTH), and Parathormone Related Protein (PTHrp).

    Evaluation of the ionized fraction of calcium concurrent with parathyroid hormone and parathyroid hormone related protein.

    Results from this test will include interpretive comments provided by MSU’s Veterinary Diagnostic Lab Endocrinology Service. Their $15 interpretation fee will be added.
